Zach Warner is an Assistant Professor of Political Science (Data Science) at Purdue University. He is a core faculty in the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts program and affiliated faculty in the Advanced Methods at Purdue (AMAP) cluster.

Warner completed a Ph.D. and M.A. in political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M.Phil in development studies at the University of Cambridge, and a B.A. in international studies at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining Purdue, he completed a three-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Cardiff University’s Centre for Political and Legal Analytics and was a consulting researcher for the Latin American Public Opinion Project at Vanderbilt University.

As a political scientist, Warner studies institutional design and representation. His book project examines why countries create new subnational governments, with a particular focus on Nigerian politics. His papers focus on measuring how well poor voters are represented by their legislators relative to rich voters and have been published in Political Analysis and the Journal of Politics.

Warner also maintains a keen interest data science and particularly machine learning tools. At Cardiff, he designed an undergraduate curriculum that combined politics with quantitative data analysis and statistical programming; at Purdue, he will help build up data science course offerings for both undergraduate and graduate students in political science.
